Building the Wesley Way

Thursday, October 11, 2012

As you may know from these posts I am leading a team of young adults to Romania next June with Habitat for Humanity. As part of this project I have also taken on the role of communications coordinator…which involves manning the twitter profile, facebook page, a newsletter and a blog. It sometimes feels like a lot of work but I am more than happy to take it on. I hope you’ll follow us along on this incredible adventure.

And if you’d like to help us on our way…don’t hesitate, jump

Did I mention the dog is part flying fish?

brewing

Look at that face. How could you say no to that face?

On another note my brother and I decided to brew some  impromptu elderflower champagne AND elderflower cordial…because well, he found a ton of elderflower on a walk with that one up there earlier. So exciting! We ran to the shops and got TONS of sugar (it’s kind of gross when you see how much there is in the cordial but it does make three litres and you dilute it so it’s not so bad), a load of lemons and some citric acid from the pharmacy. We then went and bought a new bin to brew the champagne in (we didn’t have a big enough container), it’s kind of a weird and random thing to do but we can’t wait to taste it!
We are planning on having a big fundraising party to raise money for this cause that we are both leading teams in and the elderflower champagne will hopefully add something extra special to the event! So long as it’s as yum as we expect!

Have any of you ever brewed beer at home? Richard is a biotechnologist…so this is right up his street, can’t wait to him to get home from work to show off our work! How about elderflower cordial? I’ve tasted the home made stuff before and it is deee-licious. You should give it a shot! x

Hazardous at times !

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

It’s raining. A lot. Eoin, Lily and I are cooped up inside playing a ridiculously addictive game and listening to music. Lily is dream barking in her sleep, much to our amusement.
I have mixed feelings for the rain. Sometimes it’s lovely to be cosied up inside when the weather is bad but other times it’s more of a chore, the house feels too small and too full…usually in this case a desperation for fresh air pushes me out with the dog and my raincoat. I don’t know where I stand yet today. How do you feel about rainy days?

Killiney Hill

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Last weekend, well actually last last weekend, the weather was lovely. Richard & I walked over 10 kilometers just because it was far too nice to be inside. Lily did not complain—as you can imagine!

We (ahem, I) couldn’t help ourselves and had a bit of a mufasa moment with Ellie up Killiney Hill…mainly because she wouldn’t stay still for the camera.

Under the weather

Today I am sick.

And am feeling a little bit sorry for myself;

But today is also my mum's birthday so..

//Happy Birthday Monica! I Love you!//

(I'm hoping tomorrow will be less icky and more lovely folks, *think healthy thoughts)

Sometimes I think I have the saddest dog in the world.

I blew the photo on the left up huge and framed it for my big brother's Christmas present. He LOVED it.

I finally got around to using that rolleiflex a couple of weeks ago. It's beyond uneconomical with film and processing being pretty pricey but I couldn't get over the results. I have NEVER had a first roll turn out so well. It's way more manual than the AE-1 (ie totally manual basically) but I actually found it easier to just aperture/exposure settings without the light metre. I think I rely to heavily on that with the AE-1. It also probably helped that we had some really bright clear days to shoot on (unlike yesterday!)

(that's Lauri... he sits beside me in college!)

                           This is Lily.                                                                    This is Richard

They are the best of friends.

Sometimes it makes me jealous. She is my dog afterall.

But mostly it makes me smile.

126

Monday, August 1, 2011

I bought a dinky little 126 Camera in an Enable Ireland charity shop on George's St on my way to college a few months ago. I agonised over 126 film on ebay... for ages. I bid on one only to be outbid at literally the last second. Finally I bought some. And I loaded it and used it. And made a little dark room and broke the cartridge and unrolled the film and re-rolled the film onto an old 35mm cartridge and brought it to the processors. And it turned out shit. Seriously shit.

There was two photos. Just two. But I like them. The lovely hedgehog I met and photographed? Gone. The cake my boyfriend made for his mum? Not there. The picture of my feet/my boyfriend/my friends/the cards? All CRAP.

But here's to swans and Lily. Success.
